Opus Energy's Simple Guide to Reading Your Gas Meter

To ensure accurate bills and to keep your account up-to-date you should aim to submit meter reads, ideally every month, but at least every three to four months. Reading your meter is simple; use our easy-to-understand instructions to find out how.

Reading a Gas Dial Meter

  • Each dial turns in the opposite direction from the one before it, so take some time to check the way each turns
  • Each dial reads from 0-9
  • Read the dials from left to right, ignoring the dial marked 1/10 as this is only used for testing
  • When the pointer is between two numbers, always note down the lower number. This is not necessarily the nearest number to the pointer
  • However, if the number is between 9 and 0, write down 9
  • If the pointer is directly over a number, record and underline the number

Telephone:   Call 0845 5435775* and talk to one of our Customer Service Agents, they are available to take your meter readings Monday to Friday, 8am – 6pm
Email: Email your meter reading to customerreads@opusenergy.com **

** When emailing your meter readings please also include the following information:

  • Customer name
  • Site number (this number can be found on your invoice)
  • Date the meter read was taken
  • Meter serial identification
