Opus Energy's Charity Update

Opus Energy are delighted to announce that the total amount raised for our chosen charity the NSPCC through fundraising activities to date is just over £7,500.00.
After another very successful 2007 Christmas Raffle where £500 was raised through the sale of raffle tickets, Opus Energy agreed to match this, meaning an additional £1,000 for the NSPCC bringing us ever closer to our £10,000 pledge.
Fundraising activities for the future include:
The Waendal Walk – 10th May 2008
Opus Energy are planning to put together a team to take on the Waendel Walk for the second year running. Last year a group of 13 people walked together, having a great time, making new friends and raising £1,100 for the NSPCC.
This year the organiser Pankaj Raikundalia plans to gather a larger group and raise even more funds. The event is open to everyone and with distances ranging from 6km to 42km there are walks for all abilities.
NSPCC Big Bike Ride – Weekend of 28th & 29th June 2008
Following the success of previous years Big Bike Rides the NSPCC are organising another Big Bike Ride Event for the week end of 28th & 29th June 2008. There are 3 major events being organised by the NSPCC throughout the country and Opus Energy are planning to get involved by holding our own Big Bike Ride.
Again, as with Waendel Walk, this event is open to employees, their families and friends and will take place on a purpose built cycle track at Brixworth Country Park by Pitsford Water in Northampton, the course is approximately 6miles long.
This will be the first cycling fundraising event Opus Energy have organised and we are confident that it will be as successful and well supported as the other challenges we take part in.
BUPA Great North Run – 5th October 2008
Louise Boland, one of our Directors will be pushing herself to the limit for the NSPCC by taking part in her first ever half marathon. Louise will run one of the worlds most famous half marathons, the gruelling Great North Run going from Newcastle to South Shields on the UK’s North East Coast.
ING New York City Marathon 2008 – 2nd November 2008
As with last year Opus Energy have offered two lucky employees the opportunity to win an all expenses paid trip to New York to take part in one of the world’s great road races, the NYC Marathon 2008. In exchange for this amazing opportunity participants had to be committed to raising a minimum of £1,500 for the NSPCC.
After a huge amount of interest the draw took place on Friday 22nd February and the lucky winners were Kerry Poulter, Marketing Specialist and Gary Burrows one of our Team Leaders. Both are confident they have what it takes and are looking forward to the challenge, raising the funds and enjoying a whirlwind trip of a lifetime to NYC.
